Over the course of a lifetime, the average person walks over 100,000 miles. Given this ongoing stress, it’s no wonder foot and ankle issues are widespread. While 95% of foot and ankle pain resolves naturally, the other five percent requires the attention of a physician. That’s where we come in.
At the Rothman Orthopaedic Specialty Hospital, our specialists have years of experience treating diverse foot and ankle conditions. Our team of board-certified orthopaedic surgeons identifies the optimal treatment for diminishing each patient’s pain or eliminating it entirely through elective surgery and/or non-surgical procedures. Our aim is to restore maximum functionality so our patients can return to normal life as soon as possible.
If you’re experiencing foot or ankle pain, schedule a consultation visit with a Rothman Orthopaedist today by calling 800-321-9999 or completing an online appointment request.

Symptoms of Foot & Ankle Problems
You may want to make an appointment with our specialists if you are experiencing one or more of the following symptoms.
Pain
The most common sources of foot and ankle pain are plantar fasciitis (heel pain) and ankle sprains. If pain is severe and continues more than 48 hours, it’s time to see a physician.
Stiffness
Stiffness may occur with plantar fasciitis, arthritis, and ankle sprains. It is most commonly experienced after the foot and ankle have been at rest. See a physician if stiffness persists despite proper shoe wear, weight loss, and exercise.
Numbness
Numbness can be a sign of disease affecting the nerves, such as diabetes, vascular disease, or physical compression of the nerves. If pain, tightness, or swelling accompanies numbness, contact a physician immediately.
Popping/Snapping
While some popping of the ankles or feet is normal, excessive popping and snapping could indicate a subluxation, or dislocation of the tendons. When experienced with pain and instability of the ankle, it’s a sign you should see a physician.
Swelling
Swelling is common after an ankle sprain or other injuries. Other times, swelling of the feet and ankles can be a sign of heart problems or blood clots in the legs. This is why it’s essential to have persistent or unusual swelling evaluated by a doctor.
Instability
A feeling of instability in the foot and/or ankle could be a sign of one or multiple injuries, such as torn ligaments. See a physician if instability does not resolve on its own.
